Understanding the law in a family law dispute

Most Salt Lake City residents would rather avoid being involved in a lawsuit when they have a choice in the matter. Of course, this is not always possible with many cases, such as in a divorce case, where an individual must go through the legal process in order to handle certain disputes.

Can a court change an alimony order after it is entered?

There are many changes that occur over the years for Salt Lake City residents. Whether it is changes to a person's career, health or family life, change is a natural part of life. These changes are often a primary reason why divorces occur, as couples may drift apart over time or circumstances may change in the marriage that necessitate a divorce.

Prenuptial agreements

Prenuptial agreements are often used as a legally viable way of dividing property before a couple walks down the aisle and says "I do." Utah has validated the use of prenuptial agreements by enacting the Uniform Premarital Agreement Act. Unlike most other legal contracts, a prenuptial agreement does not have to involve consideration in order to be valid and enforceable.

Divorce rates are near an all time high as almost half of all marriages end in divorce. While divorce serves as a popular method of dealing with, or as some might say avoiding, marital issues it is not the outcome couples have in mind when they exchange vows and say I do.

Law in the United States is made up of a unique interplay between federal law and state law. The federal government has what many consider a wide berth to create and enforce laws that affect the daily lives of states citizens.
