Name Change

Many people want to change their name for one reason or another. In Utah, changing one's name is legal and available to all but those on the Utah Sex Offender Registry.

A name change proceeding does require that certain legal requirements be met and it does require a hearing with the judge. Married people need the written consent of their spouse. To change a child's name you usually need the consent of the parents; however, in some cases, notice to a parent is sufficient, if that parent fails to object.
